Owner-builders

Building your own home?

CanBuildOS helps owner-builders in Ontario keep the budget, the costs and the trades in order, with a consultant on hand when you want advice.

A consultant's recommendation in a demo owner-builder workspace: its title, a high risk level, the issue, the recommendation and who issued it, under the general-guidance notice, with an Acknowledge action.

Owner-builder mode

What owner-builder mode gives you

  • Plan the budget

Break the build into sections and lines, set aside a contingency, and lock the original budget. You can import it from a spreadsheet.
  • Track trades and costs

Record what each trade and supplier charges and what you have paid them. Each cost shows whether it is unpaid, partly paid, paid or overdue.
  • Keep photos and notes

Add site photos and dated notes to the job.

A consultant on hand

Bring in a consultant

Invite a consultant who advises without taking over.

  • They answer your questions.
  • They log their time.
  • They write recommendations for you to acknowledge.
  • The records stay yours.
